Perfection.

So, this rainy Christmas season I spent the majority of my time indoors slaving away in the kitchen. Not really, because I had a blast.  I felt like I was destressing and I swear, my mind was totally blank the whole time. What was I doing? I was baking. Baking.Baking.Baking. It was wonderful! I literally spent hours and days mixing up cookie dough and melting chocolate and whipping up frosting and royal icing (first run was from 7pm Friday night to 3pm Saturday). And the night before the night before Christmas I also spent the whole day making meringue and sugar cookies and coconut macaroons and chocolate crinkles...oh the wonderful energy and smells coming out of my oven.  I swear, it was pure magic. In those days I also hardly ate anything, for I was using every single inch of my kitchen and dining table to accommodate everything I was making. I had flour in my hair, on my face, on my arms, chocolate on the floor, confectioners sugar on the cabinets --- oh it was heaven. Really, it's what I enjoy doing, it's what takes away my thoughts and stresses. Or it'll make me think, and I'll come up with solutions to all of my problems in a SNAP. Or I'll start thinking and come up with some new philosophy of mine which I'll probably start doubting and come up with a new one!  I'll think about my life and my future, the things I should've said and done, the things I hope to accomplish, oh look at me...wistful.

Have you ever thought about the word "Sure"?  I looked it up in the dictionary, and really, it's BETTER than a "Yes".  Sure is without any doubt, and Yes is an affirmative word but allows so much room for question and deceit.  But in today's society, people say "sure" with the most deceiving tones, completely changing the meaning of the word.  It's as if the only time people will reply with "sure" is when they say "ssuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuureeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee".  And they say it nice and slow and unsure bringing in room for doubt, when the meaning of sure is absolutely no doubt and completely certain.  Sorry, I'm straying.  And rambling (:

I'm excited for today.  Today I'm baking my sister's birthday cake.  I've been planning since the beginning of the year.  I remember in the summer I promised her I would make her an ice cream cake, with cake batter ice cream from cold stone and chocolate and red velvet cake.  But i find it too cold for ice cream, especially with the rain coming, it doesn't seem proper.  But I came up with another idea, which is even BETTER than ice cream cake.  I'm making a 3-layer cake, with Red Velvet, Devil's Food, and White.  Add some fruit in the mix, possibly some fondant,  and beautiful hand-crafted decorations, you got one beautiful birthday cake for the soon to be 12-year old. I should actually start this now, because I've only got a few hours with so much to do.

Adios my dears,
-Alexis.
